Approved Laboratories for Incorporation Monitoring (ALIM)
In Germany the accredited laboratories (ALIM) are responsible for the monitoring of incorporations within the framework of physical radiation protection control. During routine operation, these laboratories apply the monitoring methods for the assessment of the body dose in case of internal radiation exposure:
- In-vivo methods: Determination of activity in body and organs.
- In-vitro methods: Determination of activity concentration in excretions.
The ALIM are accredited by the competent German Federal States authorities. They must comply with defined quality standards (e.g. laid down in the German Guideline of Physical Radiation Protection Control). That means that they must, among other things, participate regularly in the intercomparisons (in-vivo, in-vitro, case studies) carried out by the BfS Coordinating Office on Incorporation Monitoring.
Approved Laboratories for Incorporation Monitoring in Germany
The following table identifies all Approved Laboratories for Incorporation Monitoring in Germany along with their contacts (11 in-vitro laboratories and 21 in-vivo-laboratories)
The regional distribution of the ALIM all over Germany ensures immediate availability for both users of radioactive substances and the public, in the event of a radiological emergency.
