The Schauinsland monitoring station is located approx. 22 km south-east of Freiburg close to the Schauinsland summit station and is not permanently staffed. For information on how to visit the monitoring station please phone +49 (0)3018/333-6789.
Arriving by car
Traveling by car to BfS monitoring station
The route from the centre of Freiburg to Schauinsland 22 km away is well signposted.
A path leads from the first carpark on the Schauinsland to the measuring station 1.5 km away. This path is however closed to public traffic, a barrier occasionally bars vehicle access.

Arriving by train
Freiburg main station - BfS monitoring station
Take any tram from Freiburg main station in the direction of the city centre and alight at Bertholdsbrunnen.
Change there to tram no. 2 in the direction of Günterstal.Alight at the Günterstal tram stop to catch the bus in the direction of Horben (bus 21 to Schauinslandbahn-Talstation, Horben). Alight at the valley station of the Schauinsland cable car and take the cable car up the Schauinsland to the summit station. From there a 100 m access road leads down to a carpark.
At the carpark a tarmac path in the direction of "Rappenecker Hütte" leads to the measuring station 1.5 kilometres away (30 minutes walk). After passing the measuring hut of the Umweltbundesamt with measuring field side turn left to the BfS measuring hut. The measuring station is a long timber-clad building with a large measuring area behind it.
