Documentation and Information

All measuring and prognosis results are collected in the Central Federal Agency for the Surveillance of radioactivity in Neuherberg. There, the results are evaluated with the help of the co-ordinating offices, presented and commented in graphics and tables. IMIS connects approximately 70 institutions (Laender ministries and authorities, measuring institutions et cetera), respectively about 200 clients, with each other. In order to be able to act in a fast and appropriate manner, it is necessary to present the data instantly and to all participants at the same time. For this purpose, the "Electronic Situation Display for Emergency Preparedness" (ELAN) was developed.

All the information and results that are necessary for evaluating a situation are uploaded to this system; therefore, all IMIS users can access this information at the same time. This assures that all parties involved with the management of an emergency situation have access to the same information very instantly and are thus capable of acting.

International Exchange of Information

On the international level, there is a constant bilateral exchange of information and data between Germany and Switzerland, France or the Netherlands, via IMIS.

In co-ordination with the European Union (EU), one of four data centres for the collection of European environmental measuring data, is integrated into IMIS. Already a central server was established that collects the environmental measuring data for the Baltic region states. IMIS thus evolves more and more into a European data hub.

Environmental Radioactivity and Radiation Exposure Reports

Annually, the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) collects the data on environmental radioactivity measured in Germany and presents them in reports that focus on several key aspects.
