Federal Office for Radiation Protection presents new teaching material on mobile telecommunication at didacta education fair

Year of issue 2014
Date 2014.03.26

Wireless transmission of data has become an integral part of life. Already children use their own smart phones and go online via a mobile device – often also at school. Free teaching materials of the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) make it possible for teachers and pupils to treat central issues of mobile telecommunication at school: Just in time for the didacta in Stuttgart, the BfS has issued a completely revised version.

Because, Who knows how a phone call between two mobile phones works? What exactly is mobile communication radiation – and does it damage the human body? To answer these questions for children and youths in a comprehensible manner, the BfS teaching materials communicate technical and scientific basic knowledge: The current state of the art of research is presented and critically evaluated. Everyone can immediately try out for themselves the tips to reduce radiation exposure.

With the help of worksheets separately available teachers can communicate this knowledge to pupils from grade 5, once it has been processed didactically. The worksheets provoke the pupils to consider their own telephone behaviour and to do their own research on the topic.

The teaching material can be downloaded at www.bfs.de or is available as print version at the BfS free of charge (also as classroom set). Orders can be directed to info@bfs.de.

How to find the BfS at the didacta:

The didacta is open from 25 to 29 March from 9am to 6pm. The BfS stall (shared with the Federal Environment Ministry (BMUB), the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) and the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN)) is located in hall 4, stall no. C 52 at Landesmesse Stuttgart.
