BfS issues call for proposal for major European radiation protection research programme

German radiation protection authority is co-ordinating the CONCERT programme jointly funded by the EU and member states

  • Applications for financial support of research projects for the largest European radiation protection research programme CONCERT can be submitted electronically from 11 February until 8 April 2016.
  • The programme will be co-ordinated by the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz, BfS).
  • In order to facilitate the applications and encourage the formation of research consortia, the BfS is organising an information day to take place on 27 January 2016 at the BfS site Neuherberg near Munich.

Kick off for the largest European radiation protection research programme CONCERT: funding applications for research projects can be submitted electronically from 11 February until 8 April 2016. This programme, jointly funded by the EU and its member states, is being co-ordinated by the German Federal Office for Radiation Protection (Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz, BfS).

In order to facilitate the application process and to encourage the formation of research consortia for interested scientists, the BfS is organising an information day to take place on 27 January 2016 at the BfS site Neuherberg near Munich.

Information day on 27 January 2016

The information day will provide information on the joint European research programme CONCERT, as well as research priorities and participation terms. In addition, it will provide the opportunity to meet other interested scientist and talk about the formation of consortia. Registration at concert_bfs@bfs.de is required until 22 January 2016.

For details on the information day, please refer to the CONCERT homepage.

European-wide call for proposal

CONCERT supports projects in the following areas:

  • Improvement of health risk assessment associated with low dose/dose rate radiation
Objective: Further improvement of the knowledge base both on the shape of the dose-response curve for radiation induced health effects (cancerogenic and non-cancerogenic) at low doses / low dose rates, and on individual factors influencing the risk.
  • Reducing uncertainties in human and ecosystem radiological risk assessment and management in nuclear emergencies and existing exposure situations, including NORM
Objective: Identifying major uncertainties in modelling and decision-making on exposure, dose and risk management concerning humans and ecosystems for a variety of radiation sources, release scenarios, assessment techniques and existing exposure situations, including NORM.

The European-wide call for proposal is aimed at

  • supporting transnational research projects which combine innovative approaches in radiation protection with CONCERT research priorities,
  • integrating education and training activities and co-operation with universities in multidisciplinary research projtects,
  • optimising the use of research infrastructures.

For more detailed information, please refer to

  • the "Call Text",
  • the "Guidelines for Applicants" and
  • the "Proposal Application Form"

which will be published in the next few days on the CONCERT homepage.

CONCERT: European Joint Programme for the Integration of Radiation Protection Research
