Measuring instructions for the monitoring of environmental radioactivity

Measuring instructions for the monitoring of radioactive substances in the environment and external radiation (in German only) are published by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU). The instructions describe procedures on how to take and analyse samples. They have been developed by the Coordinating Offices of the Federal Government in order to contribute to a consistent sample handling and measurements, and thus to a consistent assessment of possible contaminations in the environment.

The "Coordinating Office for questions of radioactivity monitoring in case of enhanced natural radioactivity (ENORM)" has compiled all relevant measuring instructions, including instructions for mining activities, which are relevant for the implementation of the Guideline for emission and immission monitoring of mining activities (REI-Bergbau) and of the provisions given in Part 3 of the German Radiation Protection Ordinance (StrlSchV) from July 20, 2001, last amended on January 27, 2017, to the subject "Protection of human beings and environment".
