Federal Office for Radiation Protection at the "ffn Chrildren’s Day"

The Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) takes part in the "ffn Children’s Day" with its UV infomobil on Sunday, 29 May 2011, on the island in Salzgittersee. Between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., Radio ffn provides for a varied stage program with renowned artists. Inside the BfS UV infomobil people have meanwhile the opportunity to see where there are hidden dangers of the sun with the help of the vehicle’s equipment to examine sunglasses, its UV measuring station, understandable animations and children’s area.

"Do my sunglasses protect my eyes from the sunlight?", "How long can I stay in the sun without getting sunburn?", "How do I apply sun lotion correctly?" Experts answer these and more questions and provide advice on how to be sun-smart. Especially for parents but also for teachers and educators it is easy to learn here what they can do for their children. Educational work material provides even the smallest children with helpful ideas.

In particular children and young people need to protect their skin, in order to have no enhanced risk to get skin cancer. Their skin is very sensitive towards the damaging effects of UV radiation. Therefore, sunburn in children must be avoided by all means. However, when small children learn proper behaviour, they will not forget it later in life.
