WiMAX

WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) is a standard for regional radio networks, promising good coverage and data rates (theoretically up to several kilometres and Mbit/s). This is why WiMAX is called WLAN's "big" brother, sometimes.

In rural areas without cable or fibre optics for broadband internet access WiMAX can be an interesting alternative for network providers to handle the so-called "last mile" to their customers.

The frequencies applicable for WiMAX range from 2 to several GHz.
