Morsleben repository: Gate damaged during fire drill

During a routine inspection of the fire protection system in the Morsleben repository, a fire protection gate was damaged on 30 August 2013. The inspection included closing the gate through remote control. In this process a transport vehicle collided with the gate. The vehicle driver remained uninjured.

The vehicle carried a transport cask containing low-level radioactive operational waste. The cask was undamaged in the collision. No radioactivity was released.

Fire protection is ensured until the gate has been repaired. The event was classified as reportable event. The competent authorities were informed.
