On 25 April 2017, the operator responsibilities for the Asse II mine as well as the Konrad and Morsleben repositories were transferred to the Federal Company for Radioactive Waste Disposal (Bundesgesellschaft für Endlagerung mbH, BGE). This website of the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) will therefore no longer be updated and displays the status as on 24 April 2017. You will find current information at the BGE: www.bge.de

Safety Emission and Immission Monitoring Reports

To protect the population and to be able to demonstrate adherence to the legal limit values, the Morsleben Repository is continually monitored. The procedures for this are legally established in the Guidelines on Emission and Immission Monitoring for Nuclear Plant (REI). Within the framework of Immission Monitoring, the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) is monitored as an independent measuring point by the Saxony-Anhalt Ministry for Environmental Protection (LAU). All measurement results are published in reports.

Decommissioning procedure Documents relating to the plan-approval procedure

The GDR established the Morsleben repository for radioactive waste in a former mine. According to today’s requirements for a repository, Morsleben would not receive a licence for the storage of radioactive waste. An application has been filed for the closure of the repository according to the stipulations of nuclear law.

Morsleben Repository Lecture in the context of the series "Concerning Morsleben"

The series "Concerning Morsleben" is a forum for interested citizens to discuss current works and questions with the members of staff of the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS). It takes place at the INFO MORSLEBEN on a regular basis.

Transfer of operator responsibilities

On 25 April 2017, the operator responsibilities for the Asse II mine as well as the Konrad and Morsleben repositories were transferred to the Federal Company for Radioactive Waste Disposal (Bundesgesellschaft für Endlagerung mbH, BGE). Previously, the responsibility for the projects was with the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS). The foundations for the change of operatorship are laid down in the "Act on the Realignment of the Organisational Structures in the Field of Radioactive Waste Disposal", which became effective on 30 July 2016. The BfS focusses on the federal tasks of radiation protection, for example in the field of defence against nuclear hazards, medical research, mobile communication, UV protection or the measuring networks for environmental radioactivity.
