On 25 April 2017, the operator responsibilities for the Asse II mine as well as the Konrad and Morsleben repositories were transferred to the Federal Company for Radioactive Waste Disposal (Bundesgesellschaft für Endlagerung mbH, BGE). This website of the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) will therefore no longer be updated and displays the status as on 24 April 2017. You will find current information at the BGE: www.bge.de

INFO MORSLEBEN

What types of radioactive waste are stored in Morsleben? Where do they accrue from and what is to become of them? You will receive answers to these questions and information on the running plan-approval procedures for decommissioning at the INFO MORSLEBEN. What does the interior of a repository mine look like? After having made an appointment you can visit selected areas of the former salt mine.

Historical exhibition on the history of Morsleben

In its various utilisation phases, the history of the Morsleben mine reflects the entire German history including forced labour of prisoners from concentration camps underground and the border location in the GDR. The BfS has faced the documentation of this history. The result is a new permanent exhibition. The exhibition at Info Morsleben on the history of the repository provides the public with access to the mine's complex usage history.

Morsleben offers an in-depth look.

Want to see at first hand how things look at 500 meters beneath the earth's surface? Let us take you on an interesting and informative journey into the inner workings of Morsleben. We'll show you what goes on underground, where the radioactive waste will be stored, and what will be done to guarantee maximum safety.

Event series "Concerning Morsleben"

The event series "Concerning Morsleben" offers information about various topics relating to the Morsleben repository for the public. At the end of each event members of staff of the Federal Office for Radiation Protection are ready to answer questions and discuss topics. The last event took place on 15 September 2015 at the Morsleben information centre. The topic was "Sievert, Becquerel & Co – Radioactivity and Radiation Protection".

Transfer of operator responsibilities

On 25 April 2017, the operator responsibilities for the Asse II mine as well as the Konrad and Morsleben repositories were transferred to the Federal Company for Radioactive Waste Disposal (Bundesgesellschaft für Endlagerung mbH, BGE). Previously, the responsibility for the projects was with the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS). The foundations for the change of operatorship are laid down in the "Act on the Realignment of the Organisational Structures in the Field of Radioactive Waste Disposal", which became effective on 30 July 2016. The BfS focusses on the federal tasks of radiation protection, for example in the field of defence against nuclear hazards, medical research, mobile communication, UV protection or the measuring networks for environmental radioactivity.
