Historical exhibition at the INFO MORSLEBEN
The Morsleben repository for radioactive waste, for which the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) has had the operator's responsibility since the reunification, had a colourful past as a mine: Potash and rock salt mining, armaments production, livestock farming, toxic-waste dump and radioactive waste repository.
In its various utilisation phases, the history of the Morsleben mine reflects the entire German history including forced labour of prisoners from concentration camps underground and the border location in the GDR. The BfS has faced the documentation of this history. The result is a new permanent exhibition.
The exhibition at the Info Morsleben
The exhibition on the history of the repository at the Morsleben information centre brings light into the darkness of the past. It provides access for the public to the complex utilisation history of the mine.
Participation of the region
The region was fully involved in the preparation of the exhibition via
- a call for contemporary witnesses,
- contacts with relevant authorities,
- interview with witnesses,
- and a regular exchange with the memorial in Beendorf.
Feedback, loans and donations from citizens are part of the exhibition. The presentation was designed and developed by an accompanying technical advisory board.
The further development of the exhibition is an open process, in which the public can participate. Contact us. We look forward to your feedback.
