asse mine

About us

Since 1965, the former GSF (now Helmholtz Zentrum München) has been operating the Asse mine near Remlingen. Since that time, research and development activities have been performed at this former salt mine on the disposal of radioactive waste in salt formations. The actual disposal of radioactive waste terminated in 1978.

From August 1995 until April 2004, the chambers in the southern flank, which originated from the production of rock salt, were backfilled using a compatible material. The closure of the mine shall be accomplished until 2017.

In September 2008 the staff of Schachtanlage Asse had 245 employed persons.
