“Establishing emergency preparedness” – What exactly does that mean? That the Asse II mine might drown is a generally known fact. On the other hand, fewer citizens know what the consequences of this would be and what the Federal Office for Radiation Protection and the Asse-GmbH are constantly doing in order for this emergency not to occur or for its consequences to be minimised.
For this reason, the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) provides information about the current works and plans for the establishment of emergency preparedness. This will be done on Thursday, 31 July 2014, at 7 p.m. The event is part of the series “Concerning: Asse” held at the Asse Information Centre, Am Walde 1 in 38319 Remlingen.
Achim Trautmann, who is responsible for technical planning at the Asse-GmbH, and Dr. Karsten Leopold, geologist and BfS staff member working for the Asse project, will hold lectures about the various measures. The objective of emergency planning is to ensure that the mine will not fill with water uncontrolled. Furthermore, the planning and measures serves to limit possible effects, should this really occur.
Series “Concerning: Asse”
The series “Concerning: Asse” makes it possible for interested citizens to get information about the current status of work relating to the operation and decommissioning of the Asse II mine. Staff members of the Asse-GmbH and of the BfS answer questions to various topics on a regular basis. This year, some events have already taken place on the topics of recovery shaft and fact-finding.
