The 24th edition of "Insights into the Asse Mine" focussing on interim storage facility and repository
It won't work without an interim storage facility (Insights Into the Asse Mine 24)
Unpleasant, difficult and necessary: For quite some time, the question of an interim storage facility for the waste from the Asse mine has been important part of the debates between Asse 2 Accompanying Group, residents of the Asse region and the Federal Office for Radiation Protection. One particular reason for the new edition of "Insights Into the Asse Mine" was to represent central aspects with infographics.
The search for a sight for the Asse waste also highlights another, greater challenge: The nation-wide search for a repository for high-level radioactive waste. "Return to Go", author Joachim Wille entitles the generation project. A project "for which it is key that there is a cross-party, cross-legislature consensus, in which all parties involved take their share of responsibility", Wille quotes BfS President Wolfram König in his article. Then the consensus may exist for several decades. The article summarises the central challenges relating to the new search for a repository and illuminates the first phases of implementation following the coming into effect of the Law on Site Selection.
Andreas Förster, journalist from Berlin, reports about the "Tour de Force Below the Surface
", the inaugural visit of Federal Environment Minister Barbara Hendricks to the Asse mine. On 4 March, the Minister looked at the situation in situ.
"Insights Into the Asse Mine" has been distributed since 2009 as supplement of Braunschweiger Zeitung and Wolfenbütteler Schaufenster. Editor is the Federal Office for Radiation Protection. On a regular basis, the magazine informs about topics around the Asse II mine. "Insights Into the Asse Mine" combines journalistic requirements in terms of the form it is presented and diversity of opinion as well of the concern of the BfS public relations to present the knowledge of its own experts in a comprehensible and easy to understand manner.
