Assessing Asse infos
Participate in the opinion poll on BfS information work
Opinion poll: Citizens can assess information work on Asse
On behalf of the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS), social scientists of the University of Stuttgart conducted a large-scale enquiry into the decommissioning of Asse.“We want to find out if the citizens see themselves sufficiently informed about Asse
,” project leader Thomas Steinert says. The objective of the opinion poll should be to compensate for a possible lack of information.
Assess the information offer about Asse
The questionnaires are distributed to 55,000 households in the rural district of Wolfenbüttel and then picked up again. By 10 April 2010, it is also possible to answer the questions in the internet. The scientists state that it takes about 20 minutes to fill in the questionnaire.
Those who participate in the enquiry can e. g. mark what additional information should be provided by BfS. As to decommissioning, are there open questions about costs, long-term safety, or about health consequences due to radioactive radiation? Is the impact on the real estate market or on tourism interesting or the question whether the utilities should make a financial contribution to the disposal of the radioactive waste from Asse? Also their feelings and impressions can be expressed by those participating in the enquiry. It is planned to evaluate the results of the opinion poll by early summer.
Don’t save on positive and negative feedback
Furthermore, the entire information offer provided by BfS is to be assessed in the enquiry. Thus, the research team want to find out
- If the need for information of people visiting the Asse Info Centre is satisfied,
- How the new homepage on Asse (www.endlager-asse.de) is received by the users,
- How the public’s response to the mobile Asse information centre is,
- How the well attended public information and discussion meetings can be improved,
- If the exhibitions on Asse have been arranged in the right way,
- In what way “Insights into the Asse mine” are of use to the public,
- If the filmlets and animations in the internet can explain this difficult topic in a generally understandable way,
and a lot more. Also guided tours of the mine and the Asse public relations work are examined carefully. BfS invites all citizens to participate in the enquiry and to express their opinion. You should not save on positive and negative feedback.
Forschungsinstitut Dialogik is conducting the enquiry
The enquiry is being conducted by Forschungsinstitut Dialogik in close cooperation with the University of Stuttgart. CEO is Professor Ortwin Renn, renowned researcher in the field of risk sociology.
The research institute asserts that all data will be kept anonymous and will only be evaluated for statistical purposes. It will not be possible to draw conclusions from the data to individuals; the data will not be forwarded to third parties. Background
Mid January, the BfS argued for retrieving all 126.000 drums containing radioactive and chemotoxic waste from the Asse mine. According to the present state of knowledge, the best option for decommissioning Asse is to retrieve the radioactive waste from the mine. With the information provided, BfS wishes to achieve that all citizens can form an opinion about the mine’s decommissioning.
