INFO KONRAD welcomes 30,000 visitor
On 19th May 2015, Arthur Junkert, Manager of INFO KONRAD, welcomed Elisabeth Kollien from the Lower Saxon community of Weyhe as the 30,000 visitor to the information centre.
Since its opening in May 2008 in the city centre of Salzgitter-Lebenstedt, around 4,500 visitors have visited the centre each year seeking information on the planned Konrad final repository. The underground visitor tours in particular are in great demand and are enjoying ever greater popularity.
Elisabeth Kollien showed surprise at the good news. The retired teacher of mathematics and physics was visiting INFO KONRAD for the first time with her colleagues from the Lower Saxon Association of Philologists and was impressed by the friendly atmosphere and the warm welcome. She had taken great interest in the topic previously and wanted to see the reality for herself on location. Following the introduction in the information centre, the tour then takes in the Konrad pit workings, where information is presented to the visitor group underground about the current construction measures for the conversion of the Konrad pit into a final repository.
